Abstract
        Resorbable implants have been used for 40 years in various clinical applications. The most frequently used building blocks for these materials are still glycolide and lactide which can be polymerized into a variety of materials with different properties. New co-monomers are constantly tried out to further manipulate properties in order to suite various clinical needs.
       This seminar will look into some of the techniques that may be employed to polymerize lactones like glycolide and lactide into materials suitable for medical use and special precautions that need to be considered due to the sensitive nature of the materials and scale up. 
       The second half of the seminar will be devoted to the development story of TIGR Matrix, a synthetic resorbable mesh used for reinforcement of soft tissue, and especially designed for various hernia defects.
